After giving a speech at the Republican National Convention last week, tough guy Clint Eastwood was both widely praised and condemned by partisans from each side of the aisle.
Many viewers wondered whether Eastwood’s speech had been impromptu or if it had been vetted ahead of time by Romney’s aides. Speaking from his home in California to a local reporter from The Pine Cone, Eastwood made it clear that he really does not like Obama, calling him “the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people.” Remarks like this must have the Obama campaign seething with anger, but how do you attack an 82 year old American icon who is loved by billions of people around the world?
Clint Eastwood also said that when Romney’s aides asked him what he was going to talk about he told them “You can’t do that with me, because I don’t know what I’m going to say.” Apparently, that was good enough for Romney’s advisers who quickly withdrew their requests for a summary of his speech.
Clint Eastwood, the ultimate straight shooter who is not afraid to speak his mind, went on to say that “I had three points I wanted to make. That not everybody in Hollywood is on the left, that Obama has broken a lot of the promises he made when he took office, and that the people should feel free to get rid of any politician who’s not doing a good job. But I didn’t make up my mind exactly what I was going to say until I said it.”
My advice to Obama – let it go.
