The first time you look at a carton of cigarettes in Thailand, you do a double take. Is this a medical journal of really bad diseases or is this actually a carton of cigarettes?
I am not even sure what some of these pictures are but they are obviously related to smoking.
Maybe the government’s message is working. Although cigarettes are freely available throughout the country, I did not notice very many Thais smoking during the weeks I have spent in Bangkok. Whether or not the vivid messages on cigarette cartons are correlated to a decrease in smoking is tough to say, but if the gruesome pictures dissuade even a few youths from entering into what could become a lifetime of addiction, I would say that the pictures are working.
